WHEEL OF NIGHT
STL-86-001

During the night, our Earth rotates on its axis and causes the stationary stars to appear to wheel overhead.  In this 90-minute exposure, taken under the dark skies of the Pinacate Mountains of northern Mexico, all stars appear to revolve about the north celestial pole.  Nearby, the bright star Polaristhe North Starmarks its approximate position.
