This photo of Comet Hyakutake
was taken during the early
morning hours of March 27, 1996.
On that morning, Hyakutake's
tail stretched an incredible 70
degrees across the sky.
The bright star to the upper
right of the comet's head is the
North Star, Polaris. A
bright meteor can also be seen
as a streak behind the tree.
Because exposure times for the
sky and foreground were so
different, this composite shows
the scene as it appeared to the
eye. |
