When viewed from the side, an auroral arc appears as a thin curtain of light hanging from the sky.   When viewed from below, the curtain is seen edge-on, and is called a "corona."  This most magnificent of auroral displays occurs at the magnetic zenith, which lies nearly overhead from Fairbanks, Alaska.
