About twice a year, the moon passes in front of the sun and blocks its light from view.  If this alignment is only approximate—and we happen to lie in the right location on Earth—we will see a partial eclipse of the sun.  In this photo, the moon's silhouette seems to take a "bite" out of the sun, as both seem to be cresting a beautiful shadowed wave of clouds.
