As if posing for the camera, one of the great celestial icons of the Northern Hemisphere Sky—the Big Dipper—shines brightly over one of the great icons of the American Desert Southwest—the Joshua Tree.  Between the two main branches of the Joshua Tree lies Polaris, the North Star.
